Nokia 2 will receive Android 8.0 Oreo update

This can also be taken as a hint that the recently leaked Nokia 1 could run Android Go, a stripped down version of Android for phones with 1GB RAM or less.

Incidentally, the Nokia 7 is also the company's first smartphone to be driven by Snapdragon 6XX series chipset. According to a report in GizmoChina, Nokia 1 will be made available in Russian Federation starting March, followed by India.

HMD Global's mid-range smartphone, the Nokia 7 is now likely to launch in the global market in early 2018. So it is quite possible that India will be in the first wave of countries to get the Nokia 1. The phone is suspected to have an IPS LCD display with HD resolution, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and an expected release in March 2018. Android Go is a more customised or light-weight version of Android Oreo, created to work better on low-end smartphones with 512MB to 1GB RAM. It is worth noting that both Qualcomm and MediaTek have announced their support for Android Go Oreo Edition. The search giant has already said that Android Go experience will ship in 2018, and come for all Android devices, which have 1GB or less of memory.

The company is expected to launch the two flagship smartphones - Galaxy S9 and Note 9 in February and August respectively. Bezels on the Galaxy S9 may be slightly smaller than on its predecessors, providing slightly more screen real estate.

The newly launched project from Google aims to support entry-level budget smartphones with optimised software, so low-specced hardware can offer better performance. The tipster also revealed that Chinese smartphone maker Huawei is also working on an Android Go smartphone.

If reports are to be believed then it would seem that HMD Global's Nokia is jumping on the Android One bandwagon with its rumoured entry-level smartphone, the Nokia 1. The recent launches of Redmi 5A and 10.or D have posed a serious challenge to the Nokia 2 in the budget segment.
