President Trump meets Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway in the Oval Office of the White House on Wednesday

Trump made the statement during a press conference on Wednesday, in which he hosted the Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg at the White House.

Earlier on Saturday, Trump had hit back at critics casting doubt on whether he has the mental fitness to be president. Trump's lawyers have previously stated their determination to cooperate with requests in the probe, which has already resulted in charges against four of Trump's campaign advisers.

The FBI director's ouster ignited an immediate firestorm in Washington, with both Democrats and Republicans raising questions about whether the president had fired Comey to stymie an investigation into his and his associates' potential wrongdoings.

"When they have no collusion - and nobody has found any collusion at any level - it seems unlikely that you would even have an interview", Mr Trump told reporters on Wednesday.

"It has hurt our government", he said. "It's a Democrat hoax". Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham and Thom Tillis introduced bills with Democrats this summer to protect Mueller in the event that Trump moved to fire him. He issued a statement Sunday praising the president's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., whom he was quoted accusing of treasonous behavior in the book.

Democratic Senator from California Dianne Feinstein.

When reporters asked why he chose to tweet about his mental state, Trump replied, "Only because I went to the best colleges, or college".

Their fear: Trump could imperil his presidency with a mistake before Mueller's team, and it's simply not worth the risk.

At issue is a dossier of information about Trump and alleged ties to Russians that was compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele for research firm Fusion GPS, which had been hired by Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign.

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-California) on Tuesday ignored the objections of her Republican colleagues on the Senate Intelligence Committee and released the full transcript of Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson's extensive congressional testimony about Christopher Steele's famous dossier on Donald Trump and Russian Federation. Chuck Grassley. She is the top Democrat on the panel. The intelligence panel's practice is not to discuss specific witnesses or its schedule except for public hearings. And as the top Democrat on the committee, she didn't need authorisation from Grassley to release it.

The batting did not come together well. "The batting didn't come out well so I'm not anxious on the bowling front at all. Despite the selectors making few changes in the team, the final result was not what many expected.

Trump is also correct that the Federal Bureau of Investigation did not make an audio recording her interview. Florida Rep. Tom Rooney, one of several Republicans leading the intelligence committee probe, has said it's time for the investigation to wind down. Adding that he'll see "what happens", the president noted that they "have no collusion" to make the case that it won't be necessary.

But Trump later said on national television that "this Russian Federation thing" had been a factor in his decision. The path of the Senate Judiciary Committee is uncertain as Feinstein and Grassley have disagreed on the focus of the probe.

"Listen, I screw up regularly and she doesn't owe me an apology, " Grassley said.

Mr Trump has derided the dossier as a politically motivated hit job.

The CIA and Office of the Director of National Intelligence declined to comment.

Bannon's appearance comes as many Democrats worry that Trump's fellow Republicans are seeking to stall or shut down congressional probes of Russian Federation and the 2016 election.

Thom Tillis, R-N.C., said Trump's lawyers should set limits on what would be covered in the interview.

Trump says Friday: "The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used".

He is authorized to investigate Russia's interference in the 2016 election, its possible links to the Trump campaign, and "any matters that may arise directly from the investigation".
