Aubameyang, 28, has been subject of negotiations between the Gunners and Dortmund for several weeks, with Arsenal refusing to meet the Bundesliga side's £70m asking price.

Liverpool have no plans to launch a late swoop to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the remaining days of the transfer window, giving Arsenal a free run at acquiring the Gabon worldwide before the 31 January deadline.

According to German publication Kicker, the Gabon global will soon be on his way to the Emirates in a deal that will not see France striker Olivier Giroud go the other way, as previously reported. Dortmund even brought Aubameyang in from the cold, starting him in their game against Freiburg on Saturday after having left him out of the squad for the previous two games.

Dortmund still appear willing to offload the striker however, with sporting director Michael Zorc admitting a move could still be triggered if their demands are matched.

A first offer of £45million was immediately rejected and an improved offer of £50m was not enough either.

Arsenal are interested in signing the West Brom defender and believe a deal can be done on the cheap, according to the Daily Star. It is thought that the two clubs are close to agreeing a deal worth somewhere in the region of £55m-£60m, which would be a new club record fee.

According to The Telegraph, there is still one major sticking point in Aubameyang's hotly anticipated move to north London.

"We have a clear position. We have refused them all up to now".

Dortmund have spoken to Arsenal about signing French striker Olivier Giroud, possibly on a short-term loan deal.
