Tony Carr didn't let a poor shooting performance deter him from taking over when Penn State needed him most Friday night against Nebraska.

With his two assists Hamilton moves past Vince Pedrie for third all-time in assists by defensemen in Penn State history while also moving into a tie for the national lead for points by a defensemen with 22.

The loss drops NU to 12-7 overall and 3-3 in Big Ten Conference play.

It was 4-2 with just 3:13 to play, and Barratt would seal the deal with an empty net goal, giving Penn State its final score and a reason to cheer. "But the first half, our defense wasn't terrible".

Nebraska was able finally to get its offense going midway through the second half, but it was the switch to the 1-3-1 zone around the same point that arguably played just as big of a part in the comeback.

Isaac Copeland, one of Nebraska's leading scorers in the contest, started the team's comeback. After scoring 8 consecutive points, Penn State led 47-39.

Penn State's offense came out blazing with a 14-7 run to open the second half, but when Miles went to his zone - a look that has worked quite well for NU this season - the Huskers suddenly responded with a 10-1 run of their own.

Nebraska: The Cornhuskers were on a good stretch with five wins in six tries before Friday's game.

Points in the paint were controlled by Penn State, with 28 points, compared to Nebraska's 14. At game's end, forward Isaiah Roby tried a 45-footer that was short.

· The Nittany Lions extended the lead to 2-0 off an odd-man rush as Smirnov slide the puck across the slot from right to left connecting with classmate Nate Sucese (Fairport, N.Y.) for the tap in goal at 16:49 of the opening period. Ninety seconds later, Copeland hit an open three to bring Nebraska within five points with four minutes left to play in regulation. Denis Smirnov, who was held without a point against Wisconsin, managed two in the first period, scoring 5:18 into the game on a rebound and then feeding the puck to Nate Sucese almost 10 minutes later to close out a strong first period. He added another free throw one possession later to get within 61-60 with three minutes on the clock.

But the Huskers would hit a cold streak midway through the first half, going scoreless for almost four minutes to allow Penn State to go on a 9-1 run and jump out to a 21-16 lead.

He swished the jumper with 2.7 seconds left with the fans on their feet inside the Bryce Jordan Center.

The execution of the final attempt in regulation drew criticism from Miles. The struggles at the rim continued for Carr - both of his field goals during regulation were 3-pointers. Roby broke the tie with a three with 3:36 remaining, but Carr countered immediately with one of his own. The Penn State point guard capped his brilliant overtime - he accounted for nine of his team's 11 points in the extra period - with the game-winning shot with 2.7 seconds remaining. Watson Jr. pushed the Huskers back in front with a free throw but missed the other, and the Nittany Lions took a one-point lead on a jumper from Carr with 1:10 left.

In the first three minutes against Nebraska, Carr missed two layups.

In overtime, Roby scored five quick points and guard Anton Gill hit a tying 3-pointer with 13 seconds left.

But with another game tomorrow, and the No. 6 ranked Buckeyes champing at the bit, the celebration didn't last long.

Watson and Copeland both led Nebraska with 21 points each, while Roby added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists off the bench.

With 25 seconds left, guard Evan Taylor stripped the ball from Penn State's Lamar Stevens, who led all scorers with 26 points, and Watson collected it to give NU a chance at the final shot. Tony Carr finished with 17 points as well, including nine of the Nittany Lions' 11 points in overtime.

For Nebraska, it was a heartbreaking missed opportunity. Miles did allude to one player who "didn't show up" to play well and said McVeigh gave them good defense during the second-half rally.
