California man's body found after falling into water pipe

The emergency was sent out after Mayes apparently fell into the Camino Conduit pipe which carries raw water from Jenkinson Lake to a treatment plant in Pollock Pines.

Just after 8 a.m. on January 23 the body of a man was located in the El Dorado Irrigation District's untreated raw water conduit in Pollock Pines.

Mayes' next of kin have been notified.

Tory Robert Mayes sneaked onto the EID facility and fell or jumped into an above-ground air vent in the pipe below Sly Park Dam, said Jesse Saich, irrigation district spokesman.

District staff began to reduce flows while emergency responders searched for Mayes.

Jenkinson Lake in El Dorado County, California near Pollock Pines. The treatment plant provides water to the majority of EID's service area, from Pollock Pines to El Dorado Hills, including the city of Placerville.

Multiple agencies were involved with the search, including the Sheriff's Office patrol and dive teams, EID, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department, the El Dorado County Fire Department and emergency medical personnel. Irrigation officials were forced to lower water flows and issue a warning to residents: don't use water unless it's absolutely necessary. "EID thanks its customers and community for its patience during the call for conservation".

The water conservation warning expired at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
