Toronto police to update investigation into deaths of Barry and Honey Sherman
Canadian pharmaceutical billionaire Barry Sherman and his wife Honey's deaths were murder, Canadian police announced on Friday, but no one has been charged in their deaths.
"I think (Det. Sgt. Gomes) clearly articulated why it has taken so long", he told CTV News Channel Friday.
Ms Gomes said that police came to the conclusion they were dealing with a double homicide after "six weeks of evidence and its review".
Sherman, 75, founded privately held Apotex in 1974, growing it by introducing large numbers of low-priced generic drugs that took market share from branded pharmaceuticals.
Honey Sherman, 70, was known as a bubbly and vivacious volunteer.
Their bodies were discovered in their mansion on December 15. "For them it has been hard to balance their patience with their frustration with us and our investigation, not unlike any other family who has suffered such a sudden and profound loss", Gomes said. They were wearing clothes.
The investigators also concluded the pair were killed two days before the bodies were found.
A post-mortem examination found the Shermans died of "ligature neck compression", the website reported. Police said on Friday no-one had been charged, and declined to comment on any suspects. While she acknowledged that there has been frustration on the family's part, she said the family is relieved to finally have some answers.
Now, Toronto police have revealed some hints as to what occurred between 13 December, when the couple were last seen, and 15 December, when their bodies were discovered.
"For them, it's been hard to balance their patience with their frustration with us and our investigation, not unlike any other family who has suffered such a sudden and profound loss", Gomes said.
