However, the governor said that as "greater clarity" about the shape of Brexit emerged this year, there would be a "conscious re-coupling" of the United Kingdom economy with the global economy.
The Brexit vote will cost the British economy about 10 billion GBP per year, according to the Governor of the British Central Bank, Mark Carney.
"There's the prospect this year, as there's greater clarity about the relationship with Europe, and subsequently with the rest of the world, for a recoupling if I can use that term, borrow it from Gwyneth Paltrow, so a conscious recoupling of the economy - the United Kingdom economy - with the global economy".
Carney said there would be a re-coupling of the United Kingdom economy with the global economy when greater clarity about the Brexit emerges. "But what's happening in the United Kingdom is effectively the Brexit effect in the short-term, and I would underscore in the short-term", he said.
Paltrow famously described her split from Coldplay singer Chris Martin as a "conscious uncoupling," a term that was widely mocked at the time.
The world economy is accelerating and the United Kingdom is not benefiting from it, he said. "Investment has picked up a bit but it hasn't picked up anyways to the same extent as internationally".
