It is not a bad combination for the towering Croatian.

Kyle Edmund's great run at the Australian Open came to an end as Marin Cilic booked his place in a first Australian Open final. This time, he has held off No. 10 Pablo Carreno Busta and top-ranked Rafael Nadal and thinks, with two days to rest before the final, he'll be in better shape.

But it is not like Cilic hasn't experienced health woes on the court himself.

Wozniacki exorcised the demons of her harrowing 2011 semi-final loss to Li Na with a 6-3 7-6 (7-2) triumph over Elise Mertens, before a heroic Halep staved off two match points to deny Angelique Kerber 6-3 4-6 9-7 in one of the most pulsating last-four showdowns seen at Melbourne Park in years.

It'll be a third major final for Cilic, who beat Federer in the semifinals at the 2014 U.S. Open before going on to win his breakthrough Grand Slam title.

"It's bittersweet. I'm incredibly happy to be in the final, but not like this", said Federer, raring to get back at Cilic, who beat him in the US Open semifinals.

Palma de Mallorca (Spain), Jan 26 (IANS): Spanish tennis great Rafael Nadal has said he hoped a long-term solution can be found to reduce the number of injuries on the tennis circuit.

"I think it's gonna help me to stay focused on what I have to do".

"In one way, I had to experience one fantastic experience in a final and one not so incredible".

"One thing I know is I'm going to be playing aggressive. I think I've played a great tournament so far".

With only a single forehand victor to his name, Edmund exited the court for a medical time-out but returned still troubled of mind.

But just as he did at the 2014 US Open, when he blasted his way to his first Grand Slam title, every now and again, Cilic can leverages his game like few others can. He didn't elaborate when he spoke to reporters.

That's in marked contrast to Wimbledon last July when he wept inconsolably on Centre Court during the second set after calling for medical attention for his blistered foot. The Croatian attacked Edmund's backhand and kept away from his forehand weapon and came up with a second break with a forehand to the corner for the opening set. The third set was a mere formality. The victor will also be No. 1 when the next rankings are released.

"There's something, but whatever", Edmund said when asked if there was an injury issue. "It's unfortunate, it happens".

"I'm definitely disappointed about it, it's one of those things where I have to look at the whole week", Edmund said.

"Now I feel that with this kind of tennis that I can keep it throughout the season, and that's my goal".

I mean, it was on me that I couldn't give my best in Wimbledon.

As for the women's final, it's a battle of the top two seeds as Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki are now playing after they both came through tough semi-finals.
