In a sharp criticism of Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Altaf Bukhari on Saturday said that the chief is not an educationist and since education is a state subject, the government knows how to run schools.
Making these observations during the annual Press conference here ahead of the Army Day on January 15, Rawat cited examples of education imparted in schools and said the teachers responsible for it are also influenced by wrong impression.
Army chief had said each classroom in government schools in J&K has a separate map of the state besides that of India which sowed the seeds of thought of some kind of "separate identity" among the children. I have no doubt on his professionalism.
"I think we can not allow the neighbourhood to be drifted away from us - whether it is Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or Afghanistan".
Bukhari said that the state has its own constitution and the Indian constitution, similarly, every school has a state map as it is needed to teach students about the state. "I would welcome sermons from academicians on how to run the education system". Rawat suggested that some stone throwers in Kashmir were youth from government schools, and stressed on the need to reform the education system. "We are confident we will be able to handle the situation", he said.Rawat said China has been keeping its troops in north Doka La.He said India is dealing with China at different levels including through diplomatic engagement.
