Michael McCarthy of The Sporting News is hearing that ESPN is going to give the gig, vacated by Aaron Boone by virtue of his hiring by the Yankees, to Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, who signed a multi-year contract with Fox Sports back in March, with remain with Fox Sports as an analyst for the postseason.

Separately, ESPN is finalizing a deal to hire Vasgersian for "Sunday Night Baseball", according to sources. He'll reportedly be able to continue doing that.

After starring as a studio host for Fox's playoff coverage over the past couple of years, A-Rod is about to be named to, arguably, televised baseball's top job: color commentary in ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball booth.

A-Rod already works for Fox Sports during the postseason, doing pre and postgame analysis with Kevin Burkhardt, Frank Thomas and other retired baseball personalities like David Ortiz.

The unusual talent-sharing agreement was made possible after ESPN made an offer to purchase some of Fox's assets, including its regional sports networks.

Due to his success as a broadcaster, many have forgiven Rodriguez for his transgressions during his major league playing career, most notably his bouts with using performance-enhancing drugs. "Boog Sciambi has also been under strong consideration for the 'Sunday Night Baseball" play-by-play role.
