Family of teen bystander killed in Vancouver shootout 'still in shock'

Alfred Wong

Alfred Wong

Alfred Wong was riding in the back seat of his parents' auto in the area of East Broadway and Ontario Street on Saturday, Jan. 13 when he was hit by a stray bullet.

"He was very close to his parents and brother and was loved dearly by them", he said. But we know that Alfred is now in heaven with God.

Chief Const. Adam Palmer said the department deals with criminal activity every day and there are often tragic consequences, but having to deal with the death of an innocent boy has been hard for everyone. He said much evidence has been gathered.

"The 15 years that we had with Alfred were far too short..." "We have a pretty good idea of what happened that night".

Outside of school, he participated in martial arts, basketball and swimming, and had already completed numerous requirements to become a lifeguard, Choi said.

"While he was taken from us much, much too soon, he lived his 15 years to their fullest extent".

"I know the answer but I'm not telling you".

In lieu of gifts or flowers, individuals are encouraged to make a donation in Alfred's name to the scholarship funds.

Alfred's funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.at Coquitlam Alliance Church, 2601 Spuraway Ave. "I know that Alfred was not only a good student and good athlete, but he was a good son and a loving brother".

Suspect arrested in Zainab murder case after DNA match
Five days after her disappearance, she was found raped, dead and buried in a garbage dump on January 9 near the Kashmir Chowk. Police claim the suspect has confessed to the crime. "He was arrested before, but was released as we did not have evidence".

In the press conference, Palmer described Wong's murder as "senseless", "heartbreaking", and "tragic". "It has had an impact on the citizens of Vancouver, people throughout Metro Van, and on our police department".

On Saturday, the VPD set up its Mobile Command Centre near the site of the shooting, encouraging anyone who had yet to speak to detectives to come forward to do so.

"We're all still in shock that something like this could have happened to us", Wilfred said, reading from a prepared statement. He said officers have also collected video from various sources in the area where the shootings occurred. "We do not have significant evidence to lay charges".

Palmer said he was not in a position to discuss any potential suspects or say what gun allegedly fired the bullet that killed Wong.

"Although we have made a lot of progress, we still have a long road ahead of us", he said.

So far, police have not identified the other suspects involved in the shooting.

During Monday's press conference, VPD chief Adam Palmer said as many as 100 officers have worked on the case in various capacities and the chain of events has been recreated but police are not releasing any details at this time. He was shot while riding with his parents in a vehicle travelling near the intersection of West Broadway and Ontario Street.

"The last big wave was when the whole Bacon Brother-Red Scorpion thing was happening". "There are specific gangs that we're heavily invested in right now". "And we do have several groups that are out there hunting one another down and killing each other, and it all revolves around drugs".
