Burnt-out cars could be seen outside the nightclub on Saturday morning
At least 14 people were killed in an early Saturday shootout at a nightclub in Fortaleza, in northeastern Brazil, officials said.
He did not provide more details nor confirm the number of dead and injured.
The police officer spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
According to the television channel Globo, the victims have been taken to hospitals, a lot of them are females.
Local television channel Globo TV said eyewitnesses reported seeing three cars full of armed men arrive at the Forro do Gago club at 12.30am and begin firing shots at the front of the building.
