Governor extends enforcement moratorium on CBD oil sales by Indiana retailers

In November, Holcomb called for a 60-day moratorium on the seizure or removal of cannabidiol oil products in IN, directing State Excise Police to check stores and issue warnings in order to give stores time to remove those products from store shelves. 2017 legislation legalized CBD for epilepsy patients.

Attorney General Curtis Hill issued an opinion in November declaring CBD oil illegal in IN after much confusion over a law the legislature passed in 2017 meant to allow the product for epilepsy patients.

Store owners will be able to continue selling cannabidiol, or CBD oil, products while IN lawmakers work toward clarifying the legality of the substance. As that deadline approaches this month, Holcomb said in a statement Friday that he will extend it to give lawmakers the chance to pass a proposal. He says he's encouraged by legislators' progress in clarifying the law, and on Friday extended that moratorium through the end of the legislative session.
