EagleVail's Mikaela Shiffrin joined the extremely exclusive 40-win club Sunday with an utterly dominating World Cup slalom win in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia - her fourth consecutive win and 9th so far this season. The American is the first female skier with three straight wins at the start of a year since Vreni Schneider of Switzerland achieved the feat in 1989.
The American - reigning Olympic slalom champion - finished 0.31s ahead of France's Tessa Worley after a stellar first run that saw her 0.86s ahead of her closest rival heading into the final showdown.
Sofia Goggia of Italy was 0.91 behind in third, followed by three more racers all within one second of Shiffrin's winning time. "For sure I want to win, but everybody wants to win".
Only Annemarie Moser-Proell won more races (41) at that age, and Shiffrin can match the Austrian great's record at a night slalom in Flachau on Tuesday.
