Rep. Tulsi Gabbard also took to CNN after the incident to say said she was concerned about what might've happened to people on the islands if it hadn't been a false alarm.
Hawaii, a chain of islands in the Pacific Ocean, has a population of about 1.4 million people, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and is home to Pacific Command, the Navy's Pacific Fleet and other elements of the American military.
Panic tore through the U.S. state after residents were told to "seek immediate shelter", and were warned that "this is not a drill". "It was just, 'Mom, apparently there's a missile on its way to Hawaii, we have to seek shelter".
Unsurprisingly, this caused many to panic, including those involved with the production of J.C. Chandor's upcoming action film Triple Frontier, sources close to the production tell The Hollywood Reporter. The same emergency message was broadcast over local radio stations.
The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission meanwhile tweeted that the FCC is launching an investigation into how the false emergency alert was sent.

But emergency officials quickly told residents the alert was a mistake, with the Hawaii EMA writing: 'NO missile threat to Hawaii'.
Jaime Malapit, owner of a Honolulu hair salon, texted his clients that he was cancelling their appointments and was closing his shop for the day.
Hawaii Sen. Mazie Hirono backed up the idea on Twitter, saying "at a time of heightened tensions, we need to make sure all information released to the community is accurate". The alert, officially known as a Wireless Emergency Alert, is typically used to warn of extreme weather conditions, terrorist attacks, and amber alerts for missing children.
