Mark Birk, senior VP of customer operations for Ameren Missouri, says as of yesterday, more than 6-dozen electricians representing both Missouri and IL are making the long trip down to the hurricane-ravaged island.

"We're proud to be part of more than 5,500 workers nationwide focused on restoring power to Puerto Rico", said Kent Larson, an Xcel executive involved in operations.

The crews from Xcel and other utilities from around the country are helping the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority with power restoration efforts.

Ameren and other US energy companies who are members of the Edison Electric Institute are part of a contingent of 1,500 additional personnel arriving from the United States, increasing the total number of power restoration workers in Puerto Rico to more than 5,500. The equipment is scheduled to arrive just ahead of the crews.
