ED raids Karti Chidambaram’s premises in Delhi Chennai

Officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday conducted searches at several premises in Chennai and New Delhi belonging to Karti Chidambaram, son of senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram, on money laundering charges in the Aircel-Maxis case. On Thursday, ED had issued fresh summons to Karti Chidambaram, the son of senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, after he skipped his appearance before it in connection with the INX Media money laundering case probe.

However, according to a leading daily, the raiding officials while speaking on searches being conducted at Karti Chidambaram's premises said that they are investigating the circumstances of the said FIPB approval granted by the then finance minister P Chidambaram.

However, the raids at the premises of Mr Chidambaram in Chennai ended within three hours, during which no documents were taken by the ED authorities. No FIR has been filed so far over the crime that they claim we did and they do not have proof over anything.

He said on Friday after the case was heard in the Supreme Court he had anticipated that in view of the notices issued, the ED may "do some drama to cover up their tracks". "The ED has no jurisdiction to investigate under PMLA". I recorded that. Obviously they found nothing. He claimed that the ED took background papers of case related to statement made in Parliament in 2012-13 and nothing else. The agency has alleged that Karti received money from INX Media for using his influence to manipulate a tax probe against it in a case of violation of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) conditions to receive investment from Mauritius.
