Iran will commit to nothing beyond nuclear deal: Foreign Ministry

Iran also rejected any changes to its nuclear deal with world powers, according to the BBC.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged all signatories to the multilateral 2015 agreement on Iran's nuclear program to continue its implementation amid U.S. threats to withdraw from the deal, Press TV reported.

Trump said on Friday he would waive nuclear sanctions on Iran for the last time to give the United States and European allies a final chance to amend the pact.

Federica Mogherini, the European Union's foreign policy chief, said earlier this week that the "deal is working; it is delivering on its main goal, which means keeping the Iranian nuclear programme in check and under close surveillance". Defense Secretary James Mattis, national security adviser H.R. McMaster and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson have all advised the president to abide by the agreement and extend relief from the sanctions. They said Trump's waiver announcement will also include harsh criticism of Iran's response to recent protests against the Islamic Republic's leadership.

One senior administration official said Trump would be open to remaining in a modified deal if it were made permanent. A White House spokesperson says that deal should address Tehran's ballistic missile program, tighten inspections, eliminate the agreement's sunset clauses and limit Iran to a one year breakout to obtain a nuclear weapon.

In July 2015, after a decade of strenuous negotiations, Iran and six major countries - China, Russia, Britain, France, the USA and Germany, struck a final agreement on Iran's controversial nuclear program, in which the West promised to relieve sanctions on Tehran in exchange for a halt in Iran's efforts to develop a nuclear weapon. It is also critical that the United States remains part of the deal, they said.

Donald Trump keeps Iran nuclear deal alive by waiving economic sanctions
Trump said this is the last chance, and in the absence of an agreement, the U.S. would not remain a party to the deal. Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said it was a "desperate attempt" to undermine a "solid" deal.

"Despite my strong inclination, I have not yet withdrawn the United States from the Iran nuclear deal", he said in a statement.

Trump in October chose not to certify the country's compliance and warned he might ultimately terminate the accord.

The agreement, signed by President Obama in 2015, saw economic sanctions waived in return for Iran not developing nuclear weapons.

Senior U.S. administration officials told reporters Trump would work with Europeans on a follow-on deal to enshrine triggers that the Iranian government could not exceed related to ballistic missiles. Bhala can discuss why the president's position is wrong as well as the requirements of the deal for the U.S., Iran and worldwide allies.

In addition, the deal must state that Iran's nuclear effort and its missile programs are inseparable.

Iran says its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes.
