Scott Morrison says the TPP makes sense
Japan's Economic Revitalization Minister, Toshimitsu Motegi, has welcomed President Donald Trump's comment that the U.S. could rejoin the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade agreement if it benefits the American people.
Trump, who made withdrawing the USA from the controversial TPP deal a tentpole of his 2016 campaign, told CNBC in an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland: "I would do TPP if we were able to make a substantially better deal". And said how the previous deal was structured was "terrible". The TPP deal includes negotiations with 12 Asian-Pacific countries.
NAFTA's a terrible deal, we're renegotiating it.
During his presidential campaign, Trump blasted the TPP as a job-killing "disaster".
As a candidate, Trump repeatedly blasted the agreement, which was championed by President Barack Obama and had little chance of securing congressional approval even before Trump took office. But it's nearly certainly too late for the U.S.to negotiate a new deal.
"I don't expect the U.S.to join the TPP anytime soon".

"And really, that seems unlikely", said RBC's Trinh. Markets in Australia and India were closed for a holiday Friday, which dampened overall activity. He said he would pursue individual deals with the other countries.
"We have members in our industry who make their money not from selling software but from selling services around software that is open source and in some cases that has entered the public domain by explicit declaration of the author".
Agricultural groups remain concerned that the US remains on the outside as other countries continue to advance their trade agendas.
