Lawyers for the women successfully obtained a High Court order blocking his parole pending a further hearing due to take place next month.

The judicial review application from the two victims is one of several legal challenges in the case.

He was jailed indefinitely in 2009, with a minimum term of eight years, for drugging and sexually assaulting female passengers.

"Over the last eight years since it became clear that this, the implementation, was going badly wrong, I've accepted entirely my part in this".

On Thursday, two of Worboys' victims lodged an application for a judicial review into the Parole Board's decision to release the 60-year-old, but "because of the urgency" of the situation in trying to stop the impending release, they were dealt with on Friday.

"But they feel under a duty to do all they can to keep him off the streets".

Speaking for the first time since Worboys' release was announced, Blunkett said he accepted some responsibility for the sex offender being set free but insisted the legislation he introduced had been implemented badly. Neither the Parole Board or the Ministry of Justice opposed Ms Wistrich's application.

Lawyers will demand details of their reasons for concluding that the ex-cabbie is no longer a risk to the public, and also intend to present police and prosecutors with a dossier of allegations against Worboys.

He is also now at the centre of a new probe by Scotland Yard after a new victim came forward alleging she had been assaulted by Worboys in 1997.

In November, a three-person panel of the Parole Board directed the release of Worboys, following an oral hearing.

Police fear the ex-stripper attacked more than 100 after picking them up in his cab and feeding them spiked champagne claiming he was toasting a big lottery win.

Worboys could "potentially" have a claim for damages if the two women's legal battle fails, Ms Wistrich said.

One of the women pausing the judicial review, NBV, was a complainant in the criminal trial.

John Worboys" release from jail has been put on hold after victims won the first round of a court battle to keep the "black cab rapist' in prison.

But the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to charge him with all the alleged offences because they did not want to "overload the jury".
