Katie Couric Slams Today for Matt Lauer's 'Completely Unacceptable' Workplace Harassment

Katie Couric breaks silence on Matt Lauer ‘I had no idea

Katie Couric, the long-time partner of Matt Lauer on the Today show, has issued her first extensive comments on his sexual harassment scandal and subsequent firing.

Couric said she is not only surprised by what the man she worked with for 15 years is alleged to have done, she is in pain over the revelations - but her priority is lending support to any women subjected to bad behavior: "The whole thing has been very painful for me".

Couric called the allegations made against her former co-host "disturbing, distressing and disorienting" and said such behavior is "completely unacceptable".

The joke in question was made on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2012, when Couric said Lauer's most annoying habit was pinching her "on the a** a lot".

She added that she had "no idea this was going on" during or after her tenure. "Matt was a kind and generous colleague who treated me with respect", she continued.

The TV journalist anchored the morning show from 1991 to 2006, while Lauer served as co-anchor from1997 to 2017. "It's still very upsetting", she said.
