Grieving fans and bandmates attended late K-pop star Jonghyun's solemn funeral procession on Thursday. The procession began at the Asan Medical Centre in Seoul, where hundreds had gathered to pay their respects.
SHINee were founded in 2008 as a five member group under SM Entertainment, and quickly rose to become of the biggest K-pop boy groups.
The singer, better known as Jonghyun, died in hospital in Seoul on Monday after he was found unconscious in his apartment. Members of the K-pop group Super Junior respectfully walked behind them and Jonghyun's sister, Kim So-dam, led the group while holding onto a framed portrait of her brother.
The service was a private one, attended just by close family and friends. It was not clear whether Kim's remains would be buried or cremated.
NBC Chicago posted an apology on Twitter in response to the criticism, writing: "Yesterday, while reporting on the death of Kim Jong-Hyun, a member of the popular South Korean boy band SHINee, NBC 5 mistakenly aired video of the band BTS during our morning newscast".
A coal briquette was burning on a frying pan-a common method of self-killing in South Korea, an ultra-competitive society with one of the world's highest suicide rates. Jonghyun died at the age of 27 by apparent suicide, allegedly due to depression caused by industry pressure.
