Report Kyrie threatened to sit out the season if Cavs didn't trade him
More than halfway into the 2017-18 National Basketball Association season, a new report emerged about Kyrie Irving threatening knee surgery to force the Cleveland Cavaliers to trade him during the offseason.
Now, thanks to a report from Cleveland.com, we have a better understanding of what prompted the Cavs decision.
These sources say Irving needs a minor procedure as a followup to the surgery he had to fix his broken kneecap during the 2015 NBA Finals.
A pretty shocking report about Kyrie Irving came out on Thursday.
Gilbert didn't have to honor the request, though, as Irving had two years left on his contract.

The team has lost 11 of its last 15 games, and the defense is the NBA's worst during this stretch, giving up 114 points per 100 possessions.
Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving and his Boston Celtics are first out east.
Kyrie Irving had asked for a trade out of Cleveland (who had already tried to trade him to Phoenix in a three-way deal, which set off the chain of events). Point guard Isaiah Thomas, also part of the Boston trade, has yet to return to form after a hip injury he suffered at the end of the 2016-17 season.
The Cavaliers have been underperforming as of late, mainly struggling defensively while the Celtics have looked elite in the Eastern Conference.
