Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav- File

Lalu has been convicted under the Prevention of Corruption Act, reports said adding that the quantum of punishment may be announced on Thursday.

The case is related to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 33.67 crore from Chaibasa treasury in 1992-1993. He alleged that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had played a role in framing Lalu Prasad in fodder scam case.

Besides Yadav, a former Chief Minister, another ex-Chief Minister of Bihar, Jagannath Mishra remains accused in this case besides 56 others.

Soon after the conviction, Lalu's son Tejashwi Yadav said his RJD will move higher courts against all the verdicts against the RJD chief. "We will approach higher courts against all these verdicts".

Gold Coast detectives make arrest over two sus deaths
A woman has been arrested in connection with the suspected murders of a man and a woman found dead years apart on the Gold Coast. Detectives also allege the woman seriously assaulted her 25-year-old daughter on multiple occasions over several years.

The RJD chief was convicted for his fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from the Deoghar treasury 21 years ago. Special CBI Court judge Shiv Pal Singh had last Saturday sentenced him to three-and-a-half years in jail in the case.

In all, the 69-year-old RJD president faced five cases in the multi-crore fodder scam in Ranchi and has been convicted in two of them.

After the Chaibasa Treasury verdict, there are two more cases in Jharkhand where the verdict is expected in the coming months.

The Rs 900 crore fodder scam, probed by the CBI, relates to fraudulent withdrawal of public funds from different government treasuries over fictitious spends on fodder and other expenses for cattle. This comes as another setback for the former Bihar chief minister, who is already serving a sentence in prison in connection with another fodder scam case. He was on bail in the first case when he was convicted and sentenced in the second.
