Mr. Rubio's statement said his office would "not be disclosing any further details about the incidents which occurred".

The Florida senator said he was made aware of the allegations on Friday and flew from Florida to Washington D.C. on Saturday to terminate the staffer's employment "effective immediately". He will now be replaced, at least on an interim basis, by Rubio's deputy chief of staff, Jessica Fernandez.

Rubio said his staff would notify the appropriate congressional and Senate administrative offices of his decision on Monday.
