Cinematographer Rachel Morrison on her historic Oscar nomination 'There's no time like the present'
Mudbound's Rachel Morrison also made history as the first female cinematographer to be nominated in the awards show's history.
Morrison was director of photography for the Netflix-produced film "Mudbound".
Mudbound was one of the best movies I saw in 2017 and instantly thought it would be in consideration for a number of Oscar nominations.
The other films nominated against Mudbound in that category are Blade Runner 2049, Darkest Hour, Dunkirk and The Shape of Water.

Women weren't often employed as cinematographers in the early days of film, owing to the heaviness of the equipment, but that institutional bias carried forward even into the days when cameras have become more and more portable.
