EAST LANSING, Mich. - Tom Izzo and Mark Dantonio, the two most prominent coaches at Michigan State, said Friday night that they have no plans to step away from their positions in the wake of a report about a pervasive culture of sexual assault on campus and within their two programs. But according to a story written by Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic, NCAA president Mark Emmert has been aware of the cases for quite some time.
That case was a part of ESPN's far-ranging report, published on Friday, detailing a pattern of covering up sexual assaults and violence by MSU football and basketball players over the last decade.
The Athletic was given a copy of a letter from National Coalition Against Violent Athletes founder Kathy Redmond that alerted Emmert to what was being reported at Michigan State, where there were 37 separate cases of sexual assault that involved athletes. "An earlier report of similar violence involving two other MSU basketball players also went un-redressed".
According to their report the letter indicated that there were 37 reports of sexual assaults by MSU athletes.
Emmert became NCAA president in 2010, and received a letter dated November 17, 2010, from Kathy Redmond, founder of the National Coalition Against Violent Athletes.

It only took until January 2018 for the NCAA to now investigate the university for something they supposedly knew about in 2010.
Still, Redmond said she fully supports the NCAA getting involved at Michigan State now and, in particular, probing the welfare and safety of female athletes treated by Nassar.
