Former NFL head coach returning to his old team as an assistant
I'm writing on how the Raiders hiring Gruden is an excellent hire.
The Fritz Pollard Alliance called for the investigation on Wednesday out of concern that Raiders owner Mark Davis came to an agreement with Gruden before the team interviewed any minority candidates as required by the National Football League since 2003.
The league's announcement came a day after the Fritz Pollard Alliance, the diversity group that works closely with the NFL on its minority hiring, called for the Raiders to be investigated for a possible violation of the Rooney Rule.
Although Cable has a history with the Raiders, he and Gruden never crossed paths.
The team announced the move Saturday as soon as Gruden finished his. The next Tuesday, Gruden was hired and signed his contract.
".That's the term that we were using in our discussions and everything, are you all-in? And this time he didn't waver, either", Davis said. The interim tag was lifted in 2009, and he coached the Raiders to an 8-8 record in 2010.
Davis has not said that Gruden verbally accepted the job, but used the phrase "all in" to describe how Gruden felt about the job.

Gruden left the broadcast booth at ESPN to return to the franchise where he spent his first four seasons as a head coach.
Back in 2003 the Lions were fined $200,000 for not interviewing a minority candidate for their head coaching position.
Late Raiders owner Al Davis said in January 2011 the allegations against Cable played a role in the team's decision not to pick up his option for the 2011 season.
Known for his feisty sideline demeanor, Gruden admitted he has some "unfinished" business with the Raiders.
On the field, Gruden will take over for Jack Del Rio after the latter was sacked following a 6-10 season.
Gruden was signed to a 10-year contract worth as much as $100 million to replace Jack Del Rio, who was sacked on the same day as the Raiders' season finale. Overall, he is 95-81 in 11 regular seasons and 100-85 including the postseason.
