North Korea cancels visit to prepare for Olympics in South - ministry

Kim Jong Un

"We are turning the Pyeongchang Olympics that we've got into the Pyongyang Olympics", said Hong Joon-pyo, leader of South Korea's main conservative opposition party, referring to North Korea's capital.

While many have welcomed the reduction in tensions on a Peninsula which past year appeared to be barreling towards war, some in Seoul and Washington have questioned whether South Korea is giving up too much for too little.

Olympics organizers on Friday welcomed an agreement between North and South Korea to unite athletes at the upcoming Winter Games in Pyeongchang, and promised that "much more exciting initiatives" promoting Korean unity will emerge this weekend.

North Korean IOC member Chang Ung met the delegation.

The two Koreas agreed at their working-level talks on Wednesday to field the joint squad at the February 9-25 Games.

The announcement from South Korea, which hasn't yet been finalized by the IOC, would mark the first time the two national Olympic committees would be competing together in a single team. But it's still not clear how many North Korean athletes will come to Pyeongchang because none are now qualified. Last year, North Korea carried out its sixth and biggest nuclear test explosion and test-fired three intercontinental ballistic missiles, and Kim and U.S. President Donald Trump traded threats of war and crude insults against each other.

Bannon Given More Time to Sort Out with White House
House committee members say Lewandowski wouldn't answer questions about anything that occurred after he left the campaign. Bannon was sacked by the White House in August and returned to the right-wing news website Breitbart News.

According to the source, around 12,000 soldiers, artillery and other weapons will be on display at the parade that will be held in an airfield near Pyongyang. But 20 nations agreed on Tuesday to consider tougher sanctions to press North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons. Critics question how long the warmer mood can last without any serious discussion on the North's nuclear disarmament.

As such she will be the first senior official from the North to visit the South proper since 2014, aside from talks on the southern side of the DMZ. "First they refuse to talk to South Korea".

The warning is relatively milder than the North's typical fiery, bellicose rhetoric and it didn't appear to put the recent signs of warming Korean ties in imminent danger.

The art troupe would be larger than the previous six that North Korea has sent to South Korea since 1985.

Chad O'Carroll, managing director of the Korea Risk Group and founder of NK News, said "a military parade just one day before Winter Olympics kick-off would likely draw criticism from much of the global community, especially given the USA and South Korea's recent decision to delay scheduled military drills until after the Olympics finishes". -South Korean military drills while inter-Korean talks continue, according to The Strait Times of Singapore.
