PHIL NEVILLE HAS deleted his Twitter account in an apparent reaction to a fierce backlash over his appointment as England Women's manager.
When asked what about the women, he posted: "When I said morning men I thought the women would of been busy preparing breakfast/getting kids ready/making beds-sorry morning women!"
For England, Neville won 59 caps during his playing career and was a regular for Manchester United during most of his time there.
The former Manchester United, Everton and England defender has previously been a first-team coach at United and an assistant manager at La Liga side Valencia, but this is his first involvement in the women's game.
England are now on a warm weather training camp and Neville spent Tuesday at their base in La Manga to get to know the players who will be under his charge for the qualification campaign for the 2019 World Cup. He replaces Mo Marley, who was managing the side on an interim basis since Mark Sampson's dismissal last September.
This was a reply to his sister, Tracey Neville, the England netball coach.
