The proposed visit by the lawmaker, who is a known critic of the state governor, Umar Ganduje, has generated controversy in the state with accusations and counter-allegations emanating from the different political divides in the state over an expected clash between supporters of both politicians.

The Police in Kano had on Friday warned Senator Kwankwaso to shelve his proposed visit to Kano scheduled for January 30, 2018, citing security threat and palpable fear already generating the visit.

The two separate events are centred on the February 10 local government election in the state and the 2019 general election.

He said: "It is the candid view of the Police that such a visit should be shelved by Senator Kwankwaso, until the tension generated by the planned visit subsides and security in the State neutralized".

"There is apprehension amidst the general populace and the tendency to hijack the visit by some disgruntled politician and miscreant can not be wished away as such for the interest of peace and tranquility in the state, we ask Senator Kwankwaso to shelve his visit to the state", he said.

Last week, there were reports that the former governor had postponed the rally because of ill health.

Kwankwaso, who spoke through his spokesperson, Hajiya Binta Rabiu Sipikin, said we are coming to visit friends, families and other relations that for a long time we have not seen.

"We wish to make it categorically clear that Sen". Kwankwaso is not sick, in fact, he has never been healthier; the scheduled visit has not been cancelled. "Therefore, our teeming supporters should disregard this report which is a total falsehood", the statement noted.
