Police said two police officers, who were patrolling in the neighborhood, had responded to a 911 call of a stabbing and found the 52-year-old knife-wielding man at the scene chasing another man around a auto.
Dwayne Pritchett, 48, was pronounced dead at New York Presbyterian-The Allen Hospital after police say he lost conscious in their custody.
When they got there, they were confronted by a 52-year-old man with a knife, sources said.
The officers arrived at Prospect Ave. and E. 181st St.in Belmont at about 7:40 p.m., after getting a 911 call that a roommate disputed ended with a man's stabbing, sources said. The two responding officers repeatedly told a 52-year-old man with a knife to drop the weapon, but he did not comply. It was unclear how many times he had been shot. The landlord was not harmed.
The department tweeted a picture of the knife they say was recovered at the scene.
