President Kovind addresses nation on R-day eve
In his first Republic Day-eve address to the nation, the President struck another timely chord when he underlined the need for institutions to be "disciplined and morally upright" adding they are always "more important" than individuals in office.
His remarks were seen as very significant in the backdrop of the stalemate in the apex court after four senior SC judges dissented against the Chief Justice of India over allocation of sensitive cases.
Kovind in his address was unambiguous in adverting to the need for "disciplined and morally upright institutions" in the process of nation-building.
The President reminded us that with the adoption of the Constitution, which was a "scripture for social transformation", the "ethic of equality" came to be coupled with liberty that had been won earlier, and also alluded to the third value of "fraternity" that was key to our well-being as a nation. Institutions that maintain the integrity, discipline and limits of their functioning, without compromising on excellence.

"It is in them that our hopes lie". And a third principle also defined both the cooperative efforts at creating our Republic as well as the India that we wished to be. Our aspiration must be to reform, upgrade and enlarge our education system - and to make it relevant to 21st-century realities of the digital economy, genomics, robotics and automation.
