Although he's no longer in the franchise anymore - not unless they chose to turn Harry Potter And The Cursed Child into a film - Daniel Radcliffe's spoken up on the controversy surrounding Johnny Depp's casting in the spinoff series Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. At a time when men in Hollywood are being forced to accept the consequences of their actions against women, fans have struggled to comprehend why Depp has essentially received a free pass - something Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe doesn't understand, either.

In the shocking case, she claimed he'd been abusive towards her throughout their marriage before later dropping the allegations.

While Radcliffe was reluctant to criticise the film's producers who "gave me a great start in life and an incredible job", he told Entertainment Weekly: "I can see why people are frustrated with the response that they were given from that", referring, it seems, to the reaction from JK Rowling, who penned the script for the film, and director David Yates to the outcry.

"The agreements that have been put in place to protect the privacy of two people, both of whom have expressed a desire to get on with their lives, must be respected", Rowling previously said, referencing Depp and Heard's divorce settlement. He also told the publication that he wanted to be supportive for the film's producers, who "gave me a great start in life and an wonderful job". And J.K. Rowling didn't exactly help the situation when she defended the decision. It is notable that Fantastic Beasts franchise is set in the same universe as Harry Potter and acts as a sort of prequel to the uber-popular fantasy film series.

"It's a very hard thing for me", Daniel toldEW about the controversy. Depp had appeared in the final scene of the first film.

The 28-year-old actor is referring to Warner Bros.' decision to fire actor Jamie Waylett, who played Draco Malfoy's henchman Vincent Crabbe in the first six Harry Potter films, after he was arrested for growing 10 marijuana plants in 2009. "As David Yates, long-time Potter director, has already said, we naturally considered the possibility of recasting". They later issued a joint statement saying there was "never any intent of physical or emotional harm".
