Westbrook Selected, George Snubbed In All-Star Reserve Selections
Russell Westbrook is headed back to the All-Star Game.
Swingman Paul George, who entered Tuesday averaging over 20 points with 2.2 steals per game while shooting a career-best 42.9 percent from 3-point range, didn't make the All-Star team in the Western Conference.
Westbrook was among the seven Western reserves, as selected by league coaches.
In the last bit of sad news for members of the OK3, Carmelo Anthony was left off the All-Star roster for the first time since 2010. It's Westbrook's seventh total and fourth-consecutive selection of his career. Such is life in the loaded Western Conference.
Oddly enough, Victor Oladipo, the key piece in the trade that sent George from in to OKC, was named an Eastern Conference All-Star.
In a change from the NBA's traditional East vs. LeBron James and Stephen Curry are captains.
Russell Westbrook, George's new Thunder teammate, wasn't happy about it, taking veiled shots at Golden State (and Durant, of course).
George is hopeful of being one of the reserves in this year's All-Star, but he's not letting that stray him from his primary goal. He remains in the NBA's top-10 in scoring (24.8) while leading the league in assists (10.1) per game in 2017-18. "It's significant because it's home, to play back at home, but it's not the end of the world if it doesn't happen". I don't know who else made the team. "And like I said, he does it on both ends every single night, and he takes on great challenges. I just think it's outrageous".
