RUSSIA MEDDLING: "I am 'looking forward' to interview by Mueller", Trump says

Special counsel interviews Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions in Russia case

"I would do it under oath", he said.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he was "looking forward" to being interviewed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller 's team of prosecutors.

Trump said he expects to speak with Mueller in two to three weeks, but cautioned the specifics are being worked out by his lawyers.

"I've said it before, and I am saying it again: firing the Special Counsel is a red line that the President can not cross".

What's more, he would "absolutely" do it under oath.

Still, Cobb says the president "remains committed to continued complete cooperation with the Office of Special Counsel". In July 2016, he said he hoped Russian Federation would find 30,000 emails missing from Hillary Clinton's private email server during her time as secretary of state.

But that doesn't mean Mueller's work is close to done, as the related investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and alleged collaboration and financial crimes in the Trump camp show no signs of an end point.

But as Mueller's team started talking with Trump's lawyers about a sit-down in recent days, Trump began to sound more noncommittal.

In interviews previous year with Pompeo, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and National Security Agency Director Admiral Mike Rogers, Mueller's team focused on whether Trump had asked them to lean on former FBI Director James Comey, the sources said.

"There's been no collusion whatsoever", Trump says. The president's attorneys have met with their counterparts in the special counsel's office.

Mueller's investigation into possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign during the 2016 election has hung over the White House ever since Mueller was named in May. His dismissal led to Mueller's appointment to take over the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe and is central to whether Trump may have committed obstruction of justice.

According to the Post, "Trump's remarks took White House officials by surprise and came as his lawyers were negotiating with Mueller's team on a potential interview". The third was George Papadopoulos, who served as a foreign policy advisor on Trump's campaign. Trump's White House attorney, Ty Cobb, later tried to downplay the gravity of the president's off-the-cuff comments, noting that the president was "speaking hurriedly" before a planned trip.

"Certainly I'll see what happens", he said during a news conference this month.
