The plaintiff said that Nawaz and Maryam are spreading anarchy against courts
The Supreme Court on Tuesday took up several petitions regarding the determination of disqualification period under Article 62 (1) (f) of the Constitution. The plaintiff claimed that Nawaz and Maryam were spreading hatred against courts since disqualification of former prime minister in Panama case, particularly in their recent speeches at Punjab House and the PML-N's Kot Momin rally. "I want to hear all interesting parties regarding this article that is why notices were issued to individuals who were not party in this case", chief justice said.
Also on Monday, a petition was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) over "anti-judiciary" speeches delivered by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders.
Though the over dozen petitioners are lawmakers disqualified for possessing fake degrees, the case has ramifications for former prime minister Nawaz Sharif as well as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) senior leader Jahangir Tareen - both were unseated from Parliament on violation of the said article.
Contemplating over the article's interpretation and implementation, the CJP asked whether sadiq (truthful) and ameen (righteous) should be considered as one trait or two separate ones. In the plea filed by Iqbal, it stated that after Sharif was disqualified as prime minister, he had started to speak negatively on courts.
