The Donegal man had not played competitive football since breaking his leg in action for the Republic of Ireland against Wales back in March 2017, however, the full-back made a very welcome return to Goodison Park in the No 2 shirt.

The 29-year-old Everton defender has been sidelined since he suffered a double leg break while on global duty with the Republic of Ireland last March.

But the 29-year-old is set to step up his recovery by playing for David Unsworth's side this evening (7pm).

Coleman did not look to have any ill effects from his injury, and got stuck in with what the Liverpool Echo described as a "full blooded tackle".

Coleman can now start looking at the remaining Toffees fixtures and target a date for his Premier League return.

Everton and Ireland fullback Seamus Coleman hasn't featured on a football pitch since he was on the receiving end of a horror challenge while on global duty against Wales last March. Great to see him back in action and his runs in the second half were a really positive sign.

The tackle came in from Aston Villa left back Neil Taylor, who was sent off and banned for the tackle which has caused the Irishman to be out for 10 months. I treated it like a first-team game and gave it everything.
