Second Women's March Since Trump Inauguration Sees Larger Turnout in Many Cities

They sent pre-recorded messages via video, offering their support and encouraging their constituents to use their voices and vote.

Organizers said the focus this year has shifted from resistance against the Trump administration to influencing upcoming local, state and midterm elections.

In Washington, the city where thousands of people wore pink past year to show the recently-elected US President Donald Trump that they didn't support him, Heather Tucci commented that she was not going to stay apart and maintain her mouth closed.

One of them is 71-year-old Toni Chew, who's a rancher from Sheridan, Wyoming.

"Women are scared to speak, and because I was vilified by everything I said, I was called a prostitute for being raped", she said at the rally.

Among the crowd was Paula Beaty, who wore a women's suffrage outfit from early 1900s.

Many women at that march indicated their opposition to the current president, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by at least 19 women.

Millions of people around the world marched during last year's rallies, and many on Saturday talked about the news avalanche of politics and gender issues in the past year.

Mayor Bill De Blasio cited 200,000 as New York City's official number in a tweet on Sunday morning: "It was the one year anniversary of one of the greatest protests in American history, and it was a promise to keep the fight going".
