The river overflowed in some places this week when water levels reached just over 5 meters (nearly 17 feet).
The Vigicrues flooding agency scaled back its peak predictions for the river in the capital, saying it will top out at 5.9 to 6 metres tomorrow evening at the earliest, compared with 6.2 metres previously.
The swollen Seine inched even higher yesterday, keeping Paris on alert, though forecasters said the flooding should peak overnight, leaving a lengthy mop-up job. It was expected to keep rising, reaching 6.1 meters (20 feet) by Saturday, as high as the June 2016 flooding when authorities were forced to close several monuments, including the Louvre Museum.
In the south of France, heavy rains caused a breach in the water supply pipe of a holding tank on an oil platform in La Mede, near Marseille, on Saturday, French giant Total said. Police drone footage showed traffic flowing on city streets and traffic circles, even as boats were unable to travel beneath Paris' bridges because of low or nonexistent clearance.
Some quay-side restaurants were submerged, and some roads and parks were closed as a precautionary measure - along with the bottom floor of the Louvre Museum.
But the world's most visited museum was still on alert yesterday, along with the Musee d'Orsay and Orangerie galleries, with the lower level of the Louvre's Islamic arts wing closed to visitors at least until Monday.
In Paris, streets next to the river and buildings in low-lying areas were vulnerable, but most Parisians appeared unfazed by their newfound waterworld.

Parisians are bracing themselves for more flooding as water levels in the River Seine continue to rise.
Colombe Brossel, the deputy Paris mayor, told CNN the city had learned from past mistakes, but that more needs to be done to adapt to climate change.
"Two floodings of the Seine river in less than two years - we have to change, we have to change the way we build this city", Brossel said.
"It is really necessary that, with prevention in mind, we avoid this type of urban planning", he said.
Hundreds of people have been evacuated along the Seine as floods caused significant damage in Paris suburbs in recent days, but no deaths or injuries have been reported.
Downstream from Paris, water levels in some areas surpassed those of 2016.
The town of Condé-Sainte-Libiaire is among those affected, with roads turned into rivers and homes left nearly submerged.
