Tiger Woods is in danger of missing the cut Friday at the Farmers Insurance Open as he struggled on his first nine holes in Round 2 at Torrey Pines' North Course.

However, the 14-time major victor lost ground with a six on the par-four 13th today, having started with three straight pars from the 10th hole.

In his first official start since this time previous year, Woods took a while to dust off the rust, but the quality of his shotmaking improved as the round progressed on the South course at Torrey Pines.

Woods' first shot of the day was a drive on the 536-yard, par-5 No. 10 that went 65 yards left of the fairway. He laid up in the rough, hit to 35 feet and took a par on what is considered a birdie hole. He missed the green to the left and chipped through the green before two-putting. He has won here eight times, seven times at the PGA Tour event and most notably at the 2008 U.S. Open, where he annexed his 14th major championship, a total he has not added to in the past decade.

After a par at the par-three 15th, Woods was in the fairway again at 16, and again came away with a par.

The former world number one, playing his first U.S. tour event since missing the cut here past year - and just his second since August of 2015 - was at least 50 yards left off his first tee - at the par-five 10th on the Torrey Pines North Course.

Saying he's playing without pain for the first time in years after spinal fusion surgery last April, Woods is hoping his early-season schedule will put him on a path to a Masters campaign in April.
