Sources: Mueller interested in questioning Trump on Comey, Flynn
Special counsel Robert Mueller wants to question President Donald Trump about his decision to fire former FBI Director James Comey as well as the removal of Michael Flynn as national security adviser, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
Central Intelligence Agency director Mike Pompeo was interviewed a year ago by special counsel investigators, multiple sources tell CNN. The FBI director's removal led to Mr Mueller's appointment to take over the Russian Federation investigation.
Mr Sessions was the first United States senator to endorse Mr Trump's candidacy and served as a campaign adviser before the Republican president appointed him as the top USA law enforcement official.
Comey was sacked in early May, and soon after his ouster, it became public he had kept contemporaneous memos on meetings with the President, where he said Trump asked him to let go of an investigation into Flynn.
Ian Prior, a justice department spokesman, confirmed a report in the New York Times that Mr Sessions was quizzed for hours last week but did not provide details.
Kelley, a partner at the NY law firm of Dechert LLP who represents Comey, said he could "neither confirm nor deny" the reported questioning of Comey by Mueller's office. The handover, the source said, also included the special counsel's team collecting all the material that the former FBI director had gathered during the initial stages of the investigation.
The Post, citing two people familiar with Mueller's plans, said the special counsel is seeking to ask Trump about the decisions that led to ousting Flynn as national security adviser in February and Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director in May.

Former White House strategist Steve Bannon has also agreed to speak to Mr Mueller's investigators.
Mr Mueller has charged four people in his wide-ranging investigation.
Former campaign chair Paul Manafort and former Manafort associate Rick Gates were indicted in October on 12 counts of conspiracy, money laundering, making false statements and other charges in connection with their lobbying for former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.
