Walking Dead Will Return for Season 9 with a new showrunner!
It was reported past year that Erickson stepped down from being the showrunner in order to focus on much bigger projects that AMC has given him. The new showrunner of The Walking Dead will be Angela Kang, who began working on the series in 2011.
In one way, fans will get their wish, with Kang now piloting the ship on The Walking Dead; but with Gimple now in charge of the entire franchise, angry fans are unlikely to be satisfied.
At any rate, Gimple is moving up to a role-created-just-for-him, chief content officer, looking over all Walking Dead TV enterprises, incuding Fear the Walking Dead, as well as any future brand extensions. Together, we will dream bigger and more broadly than ever before.
The only thing to fear about season 4 of Fear the Walking Dead is not having a premiere date, and AMC is assuaging that.
Season four is also going to give a lot of fans what they have been hoping for since the show picked up steam - a crossover with the main series.
'The Walking Dead' will be back for season 9 but there's been a major shake up at the top of the long running series... That's not so interesting because, dispute declining viewership, the show is still the highest rated scripted program on television.
Gimple is hardly being fired by The Walking Dead- quite the opposite.
"I am beyond thrilled to be stepping into this new role with The Walking Dead", she said. "Angela is a big part of the heart and soul of The Walking Dead, and I'm thrilled to help facilitate her vision of the show's next era".
In addition to Norton and Rylance, the series stars David Strathairn (The Bourne Ultimatum, Good Night, and Good Luck), Faye Marsay (Love Nina, Game of Thrones), Aleksey Serebryakov (The Method, Leviathan) and Maria Shukshina (Yolki 3, Terrorist Ivanona), McMafia is co-produced by the BBC, AMC and Cuba Pictures, in association with Twickenham Studios, and distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide. She has written for every season, apart from season 1, including season 2's "Judge, Jury, Executioner", and season 7's "The Cell".
"Working on this series and having the opportunity to adapt Robert Kirkman's wonderful comic has been a fangirl dream come true for me", she said. "I'm excited to continue working with Scott and the wonderfully supportive folks at AMC, and can't wait to share the next chapter of the story with our fans next fall".
And AMC's version of The Walking Dead is certainly an adaptation.
