Here's What Trump Had to Say About His 'Sh*thole Countries' Comment
On the streets of Lusaka, capital of the southern African country of Zambia, Trump's reported remark reinforced long-held views about the US leader.
Trump tweeted Friday morning that he used "really tough" language but "this was not the language used".
"We're not going to take it from Mr. Trump".
"If the reports are accurate, I do not agree with the comments made about countries whose people are an important part of our communities today and have made positive contributions to our culture and economy", he said. "Also, we want to condemn if those statements were made", Paul Altidor, the Haitian ambassador to the USA, told NPR on Friday.
Trump was widely reported on Thursday to have questioned in a meeting with lawmakers why the United States should accept more immigrants from Haiti and "shithole countries" in Africa rather than from places such as Norway.
"We always knew that President Trump doesn't like people from certain countries or people (of) certain colors", congressman Luis Gutierrez said.
"(Trump) is sending a coded message that he wants to return to the good old days, of slavery, the good old days of water hoses, the good old days of German Shepherds biting people fighting for their basic rights", Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said. The president met with Norway's prime minister Wednesday.

PPL Corp (PPL) Shares Sold by Country Club Trust Company na
The utilities provider reported $0.56 EPS for the quarter, beating the Thomson Reuters' consensus estimate of $0.53 by $0.03. It has underperformed by 14.27% the S&P500. (EW) by 175.83% based on its latest 2017Q3 regulatory filing with the SEC.
Despite Trump's tweets denying these comments, NBC reports IL senator Dick Durbin has confirmed Trump's remarks, and the media's reporting was "accurate".
Colville also expressed concern for previous remarks by Trump that had what he called racial undertones, including campaign events in which the then-candidate had called Mexican immigrants criminals and rapists, and Trump's response a year ago to a white supremacist march saying that "both sides" deserved blame. Trump a year ago ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which provided protection from deportation and the ability to work legally in the country. Durbin told reporters in Chicago.
The comments revived charges that the president is racist and roiled immigration talks that were already on tenuous footing. However, we can not sacrifice one group of immigrants for another. It was unclear why the four Republicans were there, and the session did not produce the results the two senators were hoping for.
Nevertheless, the uproar has revived attention on previous remarks by Trump that have ignited accusations of racism. Cotton, Perdue, Goodlatte and McCarthy pushed back at the Durbin and Graham proposal. Initial bargaining has also occurred among a separate group of four leaders - the second-ranking Republican and Democrat from both the House and Senate, a group to which both Cornyn and Durbin belong.
But a Democrat present at the gathering over immigration reform said it was the "exact word used by the President, not just once but repeatedly".
He later added, "I thought he misspoke, and, as I said, I think President Trump is not a racist, but I do think he is racially uninformed". "I think it fundamentally poisons the relationship with numerous countries".
"Our bipartisan group continues to build support for the only deal in town".
Political strategists and pollsters said Friday that a single remark, however offensive it may be, won't sway many Trump voters' views of the president. We have been working for four months and have reached an agreement in principle that addresses border security, the diversity visa lottery, chain migration/family reunification, and the Dream Act--the areas outlined by the President.
