TSMC – Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd.: TSMC Reports Fourth Quarter EPS of NT$3.83
At least, so we can extrapolate from statements by executives of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, the provider of mobile applications processors for Apple's iPhones. TSMC also manufacturers mobile phone chips that are designed by Qualcomm, Huawei's Hisilicon and MediaTek. According to the firm, the premium smartphone market is expected to see reduced shipments, but there are other markets that are expected to pick up the momentum.
Smartphone shipments slid nearly 12% in China in 2017 as portions of the world's largest mobile market approached saturation point, according to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.
On the hardware shipping front, TSMC said that its "advanced technologies", constituting wafers in excess of 28-nanometers, represented 63% of total wafer revenue.
Revenue from the mobile segment accounted for roughly half of TSMC's 977.45 billion New Taiwan dollars ($33 billion) in revenue in 2017.
