Dana White Says UFC 'Working on Interesting Stuff' for Stipe Miocic, Hints at Cormier Bout
The fight was confirmed by the UFC Friday evening.
UFC has announced that Miocic will fight current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier (38) in a battle of the champions.
Twenty five year-old Mokhtarian (8-0), the younger brother of UFC flyweight Ashkan Mokhtarian, attracted worldwide attention last year after claiming a number of rare submission victories on the local circuit.
The bout, reported to be a done deal by MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani, will become the third champion v champion match in UFC history.
Miocic (18-2) and Cormier (20-1, 1 NC) both defended their titles at UFC 220 last weekend. Heavyweight champ, Stipe Miocic, shocked many (like Dana White) when he beat on world beat Francis Ngannou.

Prior to this announcement, Cormier had scoffed at the idea of returning to heavyweight, not only because he didn't want to return to the larger weight class, but also to avoid a clash with his teammate and friend former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.
UFC 226 will be the capstone of this year's International Fight Week and will take place on July 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Miocic earned a clear-cut five-round verdict over Ngannou in last week's headliner at the TD Garden in Boston, giving him three successful championship defenses - more than any other heavyweight titlist in promotion history.
Cormier defeated Volkan Oezdemir in Boston, stopping the heavy-hitting title contender in the second round.
TUF 27 will feature a cast of fighters from the lightweight and featherweight division that all have a zero in the loss column.
Both Cormier and Miocic are now coaches on the hugely popular series The Ultimate Fighter.
