President Donald Trump reiterated on Wednesday that he will not sign an immigration bill unless it includes funding for a border wall between the US and Mexico.
The legislation, according to the Journal article, would allocate funds for the construction of a wall along parts of the U.S. -Mexico border as well provide money for technological advances created to enhance security.
President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the meeting he held Tuesday with a bipartisan group of lawmakers to discuss immigration reform was a "performance".
In a moment that was not originally included in the White House's official transcript of the meeting in the Cabinet room, Trump told Senator Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat, that he "would like to do it" when she asked him if he'd support a "clean" bill on the 700,000 young undocumented immigrants known as "dreamers".
Democrats still want to force action in Congress on a DACA plan by January 19, when a government funding plan runs out.
Congress is grappling with how to break an impasse over the "Dreamers" - immigrants who were brought to the United States illegally as children, but were permitted to stay under Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. "We're pleased the bipartisan members are talking... but I still think there's a ways to go", Short said.
"I really believe they're going to come up with a solution to the DACA problem, which has been going on for a long time".
Murad Awawdeh of NY Immigration Coalition added, "When folks talk about border security, and more money for enforcement, what that does is pits communities against each other".

"We have been working for four months and have reached an agreement in principle that addresses border security, the diversity visa lottery, chain migration/family reunification, and the Dream Act", the senators said.
According to The Washington Post, U.S. District Judge William Alsup blocked the Trump administration's plan to phase out DACA protections in a January 9 ruling, meaning the safeguards against deportation for the nearly 690,000 people protected by the program must stay in place as a legal challenge to ending DACA moves forward.
The bill also includes a long-term plan for DACA recipients that outlines a potential path to citizenship while not necessarily favoring DACA recipients over other immigrants seeking citizenship.
A majority of those protected under DACA are from Mexico and Central America and have spent most of their lives in the United States, attending school and participating in society.
