"Hemos tomado esta decisión en estricta reciprocidad con la actuación ejecutada este jueves por el gobierno de Venezuela de expulsar del país al embajador español en ese país, Jesús Silva Fernández", señaló el portavoz del Gobierno, Iñigo Méndez de Vigo.
Fuentes del Ministerio español de Exteriores confirmaron que el embajador Jesús Silva Fernández recibió la comunicación oficial por la que Venezuela le declara "persona non grata" y le conceden 72 horas para abandonar el país.

La portavoz de la Comisión Europea, Catherine Ray, dijo que la UE expresa su "plena solidaridad con España y exhortamos a que (se revierta) la decisión, porque es contraria a la necesidad de mantener abiertos los canales diplomáticos".
El jefe del Gobierno español afirmó el pasado miércoles que las sanciones aprobadas por la UE contra dirigentes venezolanos son "leves", pero "muy merecidas".
