Issue identified with Pratt & Whitney GTF engines for Airbus's A320neo

Airbus said it had informed affected A320neo customers and operators, adding there are now 113 Pratt & Whitney-powered A320neo aircraft flying with 18 customers.

A senior official at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that EASA on Friday issued an emergency airworthiness directive for A320 neo planes fitted with PW1100 engines having a particular serial number.

Pratt & Whitney had no immediate comment on the latest Airbus decision.

Last summer, Pratt & Whitney reported it had more than 8,000 GTF engines on order, not only for Airbus customers but for buyers of Bombardier and Embraer jets, too.

ETOPS certification allows twin engine aircraft to fly straight, rather than flying close to airports for diversion in case of an engine trouble.

P&W engines have flown 500,000h since the first geared turbofan-powered A320neo entered service in January 2016 with Lufthansa, P&W says.

North Korea's Kim invites South Korean president for summit: South Korea
Kim Yo Jong is one of Kim Jong Un's closest confidants and she will be the first member of the Kim family to visit the South. A visit by Moon to the North would enable the first summit between leaders from the two Koreas since 2007.

Donald Trump: 'Mere allegations' are destroying lives
Budget chief Mulvaney similarly said on Fox News Sunday that Kelly's rumored departure is "much ado about nothing". The announcement came as part of a slew of promotions announced by the White House Wednesday evening.

DPRK media hail high-level delegation's visit to South Korea
The North Korean delegation that arrived in the South on leader Kim Jong Un's private jet also includes his sister Kim Yo Jong . Moon is expected to meet with Kim Jong Un's sister, Kim Yo Jong on Saturday at the Blue House.

The issue is the latest in a string of problems that have bedeviled the GTF program. "The passengers have also been given choice of full refund as well", the statement added.

A Pratt spokesperson said the issue relates to a "limited sub-population" of PW1100G engines.

During ground testing, a PW1500G engine fitted to a Bombardier CS100 suffered an uncontained engine failure in 2014, while one of the two PW1200G powering the Mitusbishi MRJ experienced a in-flight uncontained engine failure during flight testing in 2017.

Indian budget carrier IndiGo, said it had carried out 69 Pratt engines replacements in 18 months, after multiple inflight shut downs and turn backs, adding replacements were the best possible precautionary measure. It is also said extended-range, twin-engine operations (ETOPS) can online be performed with two unaffected engines. IndiGo has only three such affected aircraft.

In a statement, Airbus said it had informed the airline customers affected by the issue. "IndiGo has only three such affected aircraft", the official said on Saturday.

The performance problem with the engine performance is apparently new, but Pratt & Whitney has had ongoing issues with supply of new engines, leading to delivery delays and reduced revenue forecasts in recent years.
