Japan PM Tells South Korea's Moon That 2015 'Comfort Women' Deal Is Final
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Saturday invited the South's President Moon Jae-in for a summit in Pyongyang, Seoul said.
The meeting, which also included a lunch hosted by Moon, involved four North Korean officials who arrived here Friday to attend the opening of the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games.
U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, back in Washington after attending the opening of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, said the United States, South Korea and Japan were in complete agreement on isolating North Korea over its nuclear weapons program.
"While delivering a letter from Kim Jong-un, chairman of the State Affairs Commission, which contained his stated willingness to improve South-North Korea relations, special envoy Kim Yo-jong orally delivered Chairman Kim Jong-un's invitation (for Moon) to visit the North at a time convenient to him, saying he is willing to meet President Moon Jae-in at the earliest date possible", the spokeswman told a press briefing.
A White House official said although Moon did not discuss the invitation with Pence, the South Korean president made it very clear that only when North Korea actually starts to take steps to denuclearise would anyone even consider beginning to take the pressure off. Kim's sister is the first member of the ruling family to cross into the South.

US President signs major budget bill
For years, Republicans defined themselves as distinct from Democrats by saying they alone had a commitment to fiscal discipline. House Democratic leaders opposed the measure - arguing it should resolve the plight of Dreamers - but not with all their might.
On Thursday, he warned that the United States would continue to place pressure on North Korea over its nuclear programme. Later, he skipped a formal dinner at which he was due to share a table with North Korea's ceremonial head of state Kim Yong Nam.
The North Korean delegates are set to return home Sunday.
But the prospect could sow division between the dovish leader, who has long argued for engagement with the nuclear-armed North to bring it to the negotiating table, and US President Donald Trump, who previous year traded personal insults and threats of war with Kim.
Pence avoided public criticism of Moon, congratulating South Korea on hosting the games and pledging continued support in addressing the North's nuclear threat. This was met with worldwide sanctions as well as a flurry of insults between President Donald Trump and North Korean state media. He added his hope that it becomes "a venue that leads to dialogue for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".
